SOLUTION TO LAST MONTH'S QUIZ

  1. (a) 5, (b) 13
  2. 360o
  3. 180o

Notes.

Q.1 (b) Greatest number not including five of same colour = 12, namely:

BBBB RRRR YYY G
So least number which must include five of same colour = 13

*****

Q.3 For rolling, arc AP = arc BP
Now if arc AP = 90o then arc BP = 90 * 3/2 = 135o
So when smaller circle has rolled round one quarter of the larger it has turned through 45o.
So when smaller circle has rolled once round larger it has turned through 180o.

THIS MONTH'S QUIZ

PT and QT are tangents at P and Q to the circles PBA and QBA respectively.
